Woman pleads guilty to food tampering

A 27-year-old Barbourville woman has pleaded guilty to sticking a metal clip into processed meatloaf, hoping a co-worker would be blamed and terminated once it was discovered.  Joreen Crawford, a food service worker in Barbourville, pleaded guilty on May 6 to one count of tampering with a consumer product, resulting in a loss of about $1200 to her employer.

UC students read to children

Union College students recently brought books they made and read to classes at Artemus Elementary. The students, in Steven Lynch’s class, read to the students as a class project.

 

Absentee vote machines now open to vote

With less than two weeks left until the May Primary, local voters who are going to be out of town on election day may now vote on the county’s absentee machine. County Clerk Mike Corey said the county’s absentee machine opened on Friday and will be open through the close of business (4 p.m.) on Monday, May 19.

Knox woman killed in two vehicle crash

A Knox County woman died from injuries sustained in a Monday afternoon car wreck on  Artemus Road. Knox Deputy Sheriff Roy Gambrel said that at around 5 p.m. Janet V. Sizemore, 52, of Farmer Lane at Artemus crossed the center line of KY 225 and collided with a vehicle driven by Earl Jones of Woollum.

Child killer accomplice released from prison

The London woman who was convicted in Knox Circuit Court in 1994 for assisting a friend in the kidnapping, burning of a 10-year-old child’s corpse was released from prison last week. Susanne Baker, of London, was released after serving part of her 25 year sentence.
 

Knox County to get water funds

Knox county will receive additional water and sewer funds for much needed projects. State Senator, Robert Stivers (R-Manchester) announced recently water and sewer projects for Knox County thanks to an agreement between House and Senate leaders.

Jurors find man not guilty of child rape

Nearly six months after he was indicted, a Barbourville man was acquitted Monday on rape charges. After a day long trial involving four witnesses, an eight man, four woman jury found Thomas Adams, 54, of Barbourville, not guilty on rape charges.

Ministers, citizens gather at courthouse to pray for city, county and country

Several local pastors, community leaders, and dozens of citizens gathered on the steps of the Knox County Courthouse on Thursday to commemorate the National Day of Prayer. This year marks the 20th National Day of Prayer, started under President Ronald Reagan.
